[ Hahahahha being in an empty room that's like a constant reminder of one that died? No thanks we live in the main bar... area... thing now.]

[ And a few moments later, there she is rushing up the stairs towards Daylight. ]

[ She asks, forgetting about her tenuous grasp of volume control in her worried state. ]

[ daylight, thankfully, has the sense of mind to gesture for her to try and please lower her voice. he looks around again, knowing better than to do that since he knows that no one should be here at this hour but-

he's still panicking. he's trying to calm down but he's still gonna panic. ]

We- We need to go somewhere else. [ he doesn't like the idea of leaving coraline completely in the dark. so, despite his nerves, he tries to explain it without giving up everything: ] I found something and I'm not sure what to make of it.

Is there anywhere private we can go? Anywhere at all?

[ She says, much quieter this time. Oh god he's panicking. What's wrong? Did someone else die? Is there a monster coming to get them??? Now she's starting to panic so if anyone does approach, have fun with that. ]

Wait is there something wrong with your room???? I guess my room is fine since... Yeah.

I just- I just don't think it's the right place to talk about it. Not here.

[ so daylight waits for them to head into coraline's room first, needing a new environment before he speaks up. after getting spooked by the sudden voice reading aloud the conversation, he knows, but daylight- daylight thinks there's something looming over them now, thanks to this revelation.

but he isn't sure what it is. maybe coraline can help him in that.

when they enter coraline's room, daylight pulls out the tablet from the (ridiculously tiny) rucksack bag he carries on him. he present it to her, his expression of worry never wavering. ]

Here. This is Winters' tablet. You should see the messages inside it.

[ She nods in acquiesce before hesitantly leading the way to her room, a worried expression on her face. It only deepens when he hands her what is supposedly Winter’s tablet which is… Hm. She takes it from him and opens the conversation. Right before she starts to read though, her Good Host training kicks in, causing her to pause and look up at Daylight. ]

Oh uh, if you wanna sit, water?… and sorry for the dust.

It's- It's okay. [ about the dust. daylight faintly remembers someone else coming and going from coraline's room in the past. judging by how he hasn't seen them in a while...

he slides down to the floor, looking rather silly but, well, it's the only way he can settle without breaking stuff. ] Don't think I can keep anything down right. Feeling super jittery and, um, stuff.

[ the best way to describe his feelings right now is detached but weirdly intense? something like that. hopefully, coraline gets an idea when she has a chance to read the tablet. ]

[ She nods, fidgeting slightly as Daylight’s mood starts rubbing off on her. Like, what is on this tablet???

She sinks down to the floor next to him and begins to read, the shadows around her writhing the further down she goes. When she finally finishes, she just looks up at Daylight and says. ]

[ vindicated by dashboard confessional - a band that doesn't even exist in daylight's universe - plays muffledly in the figurative distance as daylight suddenly shoots up, relief etched into his features.

he's glad he's not alone in feeling like this. ]

And that's not all- [ he takes a deep breath, trying to clear his poor overheating vents. ] It was open. The tablet, I mean. It was open and I know for a fact that Winters used to keep that locked.

And... And I think Ms. Robins knows too. She made a mention of Winters' tablet on the bulletin. It's why I messaged you. And I'm planning to tell some others because I need to figure out what to do with this information.

[ his first impulse is to share it with the others. best to get everyone informed, right? so everyone is on the same page for stuff like this? ]

[ She listens in rapt attention, narrowing her eyes in thought when he mentions that the tablet was unlocked, only to widen them when he talks about how Robin had known. That last part is just… creepy. Seriously, how is she seeing anything. Are there tiny forest spirits watching their every move? ]

That’s so… scary… Like, what the hell.

[ More importantly though, what to do with this information. Like Daylight, her first impulse is to tell everyone because this is fucking big and could save someone’s life… but also. She remembers how the “World Eaters” are attracted to light and she just, frowns for a moment, fidgeting as she thinks. ]

Yeah… yeah. Maybe just tell a few people first. See what others say cause this is… A lot.

[ daylight seems surprised by her suggested course of action. but, quickly as it came, the surprise turns into confidence and he nods his helm in reply. ]

Right. Tell a few people first for now. I can do that. I- I was thinking of telling this to Riku, for sure, and someone else I've been talking with about this. Maybe Rosinante? He's a pretty level-headed guy.

[ he trusts her. daylight may not be comfortable with withholding information from others but if coraline thinks this is how it should be handled, he'll give it a shot. they're friends, after all, and he's going to trust a friend's judgement on something serious as this.

it's why he immediately turned to her when he managed to finally calm down and think about what to do next. speaking of which- ]

Got any suggestions on where I can hide out for a while? I definitely don't think it's safe to stay in the room anymore. [ not that daylight is particularly excited to stay in it these days, anyways. too many memories. ]

[ She shrugs. They’re as good of choices as any in her book. Honestly, the only bad choices are probably Mary, Mr. Mcedge, and Mr. Mcedge Jr. Still, she can only hope she’s steering Daylight on the right path, because frankly she doesn’t know what the fuck she’s doing either. Keeping information? Sucks. Widespread panic? Also sucks. Everything about this place except like, Daylight? Sucks.

On the topic of somewhere to hide out though... ]

Uhhhh… I mean there might still be some empty houses in the village area? Near the ice-cream truck??

[ Maybe she can join. She really hates going back to her room. ]

Oh! Oh wow! [ daylight's winglets perk up when coraline makes the suggestion to check out the village. why hadn't he thought of that?

because- well- she's right! there should still be some empty cabins left to check out. and, if memory serves him right, they seem big enough for him to be able to both live and sleep there comfortably. ] That's a really good idea!

But... I mean- [ he looks down at his servos now, feeling a sudden case of nerves now as he pokes his fingers together sheepishly. he doesn't want to outright say it and possibly make coraline feel obliged to go with him, but surely it wouldn't hurt to hint at it...! ] It's kind of awkward to take up a cabin all by myself, you know? It'll be nice to, you know, have company while living there.

[ since his... you know. isn't around anymore. ] We gotta stick together, you know? More than ever, it seems.

[ after a lot goes down, daylight feels like he needs to check up on his friends.

especially when he returns to their cabin and sees coraline isn't there. worry immediately blooms in his core, causing him to get his tablet and send her a quick but urgent message: ]

[ Oh woops. She stares at her tablet for a second, hidden within the edges of the woods because she just. She just needs to think. ]

Hey uh. Yeah. Sorry for ditching just have to like... think?

[ after what they've been through in the wake of those trippy dreams, he can't blame the others for needing to puzzle this out.

[ it does not take long for one to notice the approach of daylight. between his heavy treads and his red-and-gold plating, there's no way day can hide in the darkness of beacon unless he actively tried to do so. and, even then, it would be difficult.

so it's a good thing he isn't trying then. he approaches the tree, gentle and steady, and looks around it so he can look at his friend with a worried but relieved expression on his face. ]

Hey. So- [ he hesitates for a second or two, unsure if he should push or not. he decides to in the end because he'll never forgive himself for not trying for coraline. ] Wanna think together aloud? I heard that helps when you're thinking at times.

[ She looks back up at him, giving him a small wave before patting the ground next to her, resigned to no longer being hidden because Daylight and Hidden don’t tend to go together. Which is fair. Daylight as something skulking around in the dark just… doesn’t fit. Like fire and ice.

[ Coraline might awaken on the 25th of December to find a package at her doorstep labeled "To Coraline, From Aziraphale." It contains a number of individually-wrapped lemon-flavored hard candies, as well as handmade peppermint sticks that are not remotely uniform in size. ]

A GIFT FOR THE HOLIDAYS. (THE 25TH.)

A small bouquet of paper Soldier Kisses that have been coloured a brilliant shade of blue. They’re tied with a painfully glittery black ribbon and the tag ‘For my best friend!!’ attached to it. It comes with a cute doodle sketch of her and Daylight, in stick form, who are happily hanging out in a bright flower field with ‘FRIENDS!!’ written over their heads.

[ usually when spirit day rolls around, daylight comes back from the trip in high spirits after spending time with his friends. ]

[ this clearly isn't the case, with how daylight bursts through the door and hollers out in an obviously panicky voice. ]

[ Coraline on the other hand, is doing her usual favorite activity: locking herself in her room and ignoring the world around her. It’s nice. Super peaceful. Definitely not depressing at all. She honestly feels bad for Daylight having to live with her dull ass self, which now that she thinks about it, makes her stay in her room more.

Maybe a therapist will come with the next night marke— She jolts into a sitting position, eyes widening in panic before jumping out of the bed and flinging the door open ]

[ daylight immediately bounds over to coraline when he catches sight of her from the corner of his optic. he's clearly panicked and worried but, remarkably enough, unscathed for someone who is acting like the world is ending.

(well. the world is ending faster than usual.) ]

Yes! [ a pause. ] No! [ and then another pause. ] I- Um- I got a letter! I got a letter and it's big, Coraline! Super big!

[ given how often he visits the post office and gets packages from his spirit friends, this letter of his must really stand out. ]

[ Well, at least he doesn’t look injured, though he does seem exceptionally flustered which… well considering where they are. Hopefully it doesn’t mean another round of hallucinations or whatever. She still hasn’t fully recovered from those mentally, though at least the stab wound is gone! ]

[ She asks, trying to envision how big the letter must be to surprise Daylight. Another moment, and she realizes he must mean metaphorically.

She narrowly stops herself from facepalming. ]

I mean like what’s in it?

Hang on- [ daylight begins to search through his messenger bag/belt, hunting for the letter in question. it'll be better for coraline to make her own conclusions than having her try to decipher his nervous rambling.

when he pulls it out with a triumphant 'aha!', he's quick to hand the letter from dr. solis over to coraline so she can read it over for herself. ] Here. She's... She's hoping we can meet over tea. She's willing to speak with me and she wants to also learn about what we've been through. It's mentioned in the letter.

[ She says after a long moment, having read and reread the letter a few times. Just to make sure it’s real and she’s not like, hallucinating again. ]

You… you think she can help us? With all this?

[ She begins to gesture, before remembering she’s still holding the letter and switching the movement to giving the precious item back. ]

[ She’s ready to head out, dragging him behind her when his next words cause her to pause. Was… he? She screams internally. On one hand, the company would be nice. On the other hand… she doesn’t want to assume things? Because what if she is? What if she’s about to just force herself in as a roommate???

[ which is... a lot, he's sure of it. while daylight feels like he and the others have made a lot of progress in the almost year since they've been in beacon, getting a leg up from one of the original residents of the town would be great.

he takes the letter back with a 'thanks' and carefully slipping it into his bag for safekeeping. ]

And if we can help her in return, that would be helpful as well. Show we're willing to do what we can to return the effort. [ with that now said, day asks the question he's been meaning to ask coraline for a while: ] Do you know anyone who also had the visions? I'm planning to send out some notes to them, since Dr. Solis is interested in hearing about their experiences with the weird dream-visions we had.

[ That’s a good point. She has to at least know where and what some of the mystery locations are. Right? Maybe even where the more dangerous areas are… Hm. ]
